Abstract

Abstract

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a significant problem worldwide that threaten patient safety and increase morbidity, mortality, and care costs. Nursing students are at high risk for infection due to their close contact with patients and limited experience in clinical practice, and their adherence to standard infection control measures is critical to protecting both their own health and patient safety. It is noted that nursing students' knowledge, attitudes, and compliance levels regarding standard infection control measures are generally inadequate. To address these deficiencies in nursing education, the use of technology-based teaching methods in teaching standard infection control measures is becoming increasingly widespread. This review article examines technology-based teaching techniques used to teach standard infection control measures to nursing students. Methods such as simulation, virtual reality, virtual game simulations, e-learning, mobile applications, and ultraviolet light tests enable students to gain practical skills in a safe environment, learn from their mistakes, and develop clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills. The study recommends the development of virtual game simulations and mobile applications in line with the current limitations in teaching standard infection control measures in nursing education; it also suggests that future research should examine the effects of these methods and their integration with clinical practice.
