Deep Vein Thrombosis in Postgraduate Nursing Theses in Türkiye: A Systematic Analysis

The aim of this study was to analyse the postgraduate theses on deep vein thrombosis in the field of nursing in Türkiye. In this literature review, open access theses in the field of nursing, which were included in the Higher Education Council of Türkiye Thesis Centre Database until January 2024, were reviewed. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 postgraduate theses were included in the review. Thesis Evaluation Form was used to collect the data. Descriptive statistical methods were used to analyse. As a result of the review, it was determined that the sample numbers in 10 theses conducted between 2011-2023 varied between 40-750 participants. The study designs of the theses were descriptive (n=5), and quasi-experimental (n=5). It was determined that DVT risk factors (n=3), knowledge levels of nurses (n=2), effectiveness of patient education (n=3), and the effect of antiembolic sock length on DVT prevention (n=2) were examined in the theses. It was determined that there were limited number of thesis studies on deep vein thrombosis in the field of nursing in Türkiye, and the types of studies were descriptive and quasi-experimental. It is recommended to conduct new studies in randomised controlled clinical research design in postgraduate theses as it will contribute to high level evidence.
